New Quay
New Quay is an unspoilt fishing village with a
picturesque sheltered harbour, award-winning beaches and narrow, terraced
streets. New Quay is busy and humming during the season, especially during
Cardigan Bay Regatta (9th to 11th August 2012), but peaceful and quiet out of
season.
There is New Quay Water Sports Centre; coastal walks
and pleasure boat trips along Ceredigion's unspoilt Maritime Heritage Coast
where you are likely to see bottlenose dolphins, atlantic grey seals, porpoise
and many sea birds; and the new Dylan Thomas trail (many think that New Quay,
not Laugharne, was the inspiration for Under Milk Wood).
Craig-Ina is a few minutes walk of the shops, two small supermarkets, a
butcher, a wide range of pubs, restaurants, take-aways (including Indian and
Chinese) and the harbour where locally caught fish are sold on the pier.
In and around New Quay
From New Quay Aberaeron is 6 miles with a lovely walk inland along the Aeron
valley to the National Trust's newest jewel Llanerchaeron Mansion.
Aberystwyth and Cardigan are 20 miles with plenty of beaches, coves and
harbours to explore in between.
Other attractions include The National Botanical Gardens of Wales; The Centre
for Alternative Technology; the city of St. David's with its Cathedral and
Bishop's Palace; and the Cambrian Mountains with their red kites. Horse riding,
pony trekking and go-carting are nearby.
There are five good and differing golf courses at Aberystwyth, Borth, Cardigan,
Cilgwyn near Lampeter and Penrhos. |
